Is it Eggroll proof? I can find out if it is possible to be misunderstood, broken or used in a new and unexpected way. It's going to be fun, and possibly a little bit dangerous. . .

I tried to do a good deed by volunteering at Sunrise Equine Rescue. This is a really great cause not too far from where I live. My task was simple . . . refill the water buckets in each stall. The fellow in charge there was no stranger to product testers, he had me sign an injury waiver and tell him who my doctor was in case anything bad happened. Then he showed me to the hoses . . .

As time has marched on, I have come to love my Fit Bit. It really gets me looking for ways to walk more and add to my steps. As it happens, my wonderful niece and her husband are also enthusiasts. So one day my husband and I met up with them in a lovely park filled with memories of my youth, and took a walk together with their two dogs. Not too far along the path, my nephew-in-l...Read Full Post »

While visiting San Francisco, I had the opportunity to see an amazing model of the city made completely out of toothpicks. Ping pong balls rolled from the top all the way through back and forth to the bottom. I learned that this has been a lifetime of work for Scott Weaver, who used more than 100,000 toothpicks over the course of more than 35 years. I could have looked at it all day.
You can watch a video of this kinetic ...Read Full Post »

I don't get to talk about it much, because the person involved could potentially sue me, but I'm feeling like a dare-devil today, so I'm getting a load off my chest. For the past year and a half, I have been a caretaker for a developmentally disabled family member who is also mentally ill. The irony is, if you ask this person if he needs a caretaker, he would tell you "Absolutely not!" In fact, I am the one who suffers from Mosaic Down Syndrome and somewhere along the line, our social securit...Read Full Post »

I saw this in the bargain bin and couldn't help wonder, what were they thinking? Even the coolest of the cool couldn't pull off blowing their nose into one of these. (Translation for Gen X'ers: "Even Fonzie couldn't get away with using these.") The person who dreamed this product up must not have had one single honest friend that they were willing to listen to.
And look at the price? You only get about 10 tissues in one...Read Full Post »

I have never been so glad to be wearing pants as the day I walked up to this sign at Monte De Oro Winery.
Although the words are plenty big enough to read from afar -- that is, from the solid, non-transparent portion of the floor -- one hallmark of a product tester is to examine the shape of a sign, the colors of a sign, to approach a sig...Read Full Post »

Do you think this is a trail? To me, a trail doesn't go off into outer space. It doesn't go up a cliff or even a big rock. A trail is a lovely path through the woods, lined with logs or boulders. But in Sedona . . . this crazy sign somehow qualifies a steep rock surface as a trail.
I managed to get about five feet up before the terror overwhelmed me. I couldn't go up or down. I clung to the side while elementary school ...Read Full Post »

I pulled a muscle a while back, and went looking for an ice pack in the freezer. I just assumed this little item was the medical device I was looking for. It wraps neatly around an elbow or even a lower leg. It would be almost a year before I found out what it was really for. Can you guess?
You probably can't see the design too well. But it's covered with drawings of different kinds of grapes. That suddenly made ...Read Full Post »

I saw this pretty little thing at the Dollar General, or maybe it was the Dollar Store. At any rate, pretty much everything in there was a dollar, but that doesn't mean it's a good deal. That's the number one rule in places like that. Unfortunately, this is one of those items to watch out for.
It looks like a nutcracker all right. It even appears to be shaped to accommodate different...Read Full Post »

Admit it. You have at least one can of pumpkin in your cupboards that has been there for years. You don't want to throw it away, but you are afraid to use it. Well, I saw the Pioneer Woman put pumpkin pie filling in a smoothie, and that got me inspired! I grabbed the four cans of Libby's Pumpkin that have been making me feel guilty for years.
