When I saw these beauties all lined up like toy soldiers, my first thought was that it was a wax museum for witches. It was in the middle of Spring, so I knew they weren't Halloween decorations . . .
Before I tell you what they are really for, let me tell you what Eggroll the Product Tester might try to do with them:
1. Screw it into the ceiling and hang a plant from it.
2. Skewer it and use it as a ba...Read Full Post »

I think one of the wonderful parts about the increasing content available over the Internet, is that we have an opportunity to firehose our learning from other people. If something works well, you can tell by all the glowing reviews. I also love all the how-to youtube videos and life hack posts that come through my social media feed. Everytime I see my old Betty Crocker paperback cookbook, I am reminded how useless it has been to me over the past 25 years. As a young woman, I would try to fol...Read Full Post »

There is a very stiff warning when you buy one of these Fly Traps with the plastic bag hanging off the one-way entry cap -- and that is to make sure you don't spill the bait.
Also, they are to be used OUTDOORS.
Well my product-testing hubby thought he would hang this trap in the kitchen . . . you know, just overnight, to catch that one annoying fly that has been circling the house for two days. You guesse...Read Full Post »

This entry really should be under the category "fashion." These Pretzel Necklaces are very popular at beer festivals. They come in many varieties. This one is alternating butter-flavored mini-pretzels between giant crunchy sea salt pretzels. The necklace itself can be anything from twine to fancy gold chain. But what I love about these necklaces the most, is how useful they can be . . .
If you're an introvert at a par...Read Full Post »

As time has marched on, I have come to love my Fit Bit. It really gets me looking for ways to walk more and add to my steps. As it happens, my wonderful niece and her husband are also enthusiasts. So one day my husband and I met up with them in a lovely park filled with memories of my youth, and took a walk together with their two dogs. Not too far along the path, my nephew-in-l...Read Full Post »

While visiting San Francisco, I had the opportunity to see an amazing model of the city made completely out of toothpicks. Ping pong balls rolled from the top all the way through back and forth to the bottom. I learned that this has been a lifetime of work for Scott Weaver, who used more than 100,000 toothpicks over the course of more than 35 years. I could have looked at it all day.
You can watch a video of this kinetic ...Read Full Post »

I have never been so glad to be wearing pants as the day I walked up to this sign at Monte De Oro Winery.
Although the words are plenty big enough to read from afar -- that is, from the solid, non-transparent portion of the floor -- one hallmark of a product tester is to examine the shape of a sign, the colors of a sign, to approach a sig...Read Full Post »

I think this picture says it all. But in case you can't tell what is happening here, let me explain.
I had taken a lovely swim in the ocean. A few minutes after I got out and dried off, my skin began to itch because of the salt. So I looked everywhere for a shower. For some reason I couldn't find the showers, even though I remember passing them on the way to the beach. But I did find the...Read Full Post »

We saw this at Costco. But you can also find it on ebay from a reputable seller like this one. To be honest, we've been looking longingly at many of these floating wonderlands for years. They come out with bigger and better ones every summer. This was a fraction of the cost of what we expected, so we decided to go for it. Doesn't it look dreamy?Read Full Post »

Well, we just bought a car. You know, the car you get right after you retire and will probably drive until you die, and then you'll pass it on to your teenaged grandson just when he starts learning to drive? That car. And it's a convertible . . . Chrysler 200 I think. My heart was in my throat when we made the decision. Because it brought back memories of a less fortunate convertible I briefly owned about seven years go. . .
