Friends, I have found my doppleganger. Her name is Joan and she makes gnome cottages out of river rocks, dresses in shockingly bright colors and she's babysitting a dog next door to me. Today during a visit, I gave her a chocolate donut and we began discussing the various uses of a dishwasher. She's suffering from a painful bout of sciatica and said she was pretty much putting everything in the dishwasher lately. I bragged that it was great for the hot tub filters and soap dishes. Not to be o...Read Full Post »

This entry really should be under the category "fashion." These Pretzel Necklaces are very popular at beer festivals. They come in many varieties. This one is alternating butter-flavored mini-pretzels between giant crunchy sea salt pretzels. The necklace itself can be anything from twine to fancy gold chain. But what I love about these necklaces the most, is how useful they can be . . .
If you're an introvert at a par...Read Full Post »

I pulled a muscle a while back, and went looking for an ice pack in the freezer. I just assumed this little item was the medical device I was looking for. It wraps neatly around an elbow or even a lower leg. It would be almost a year before I found out what it was really for. Can you guess?
You probably can't see the design too well. But it's covered with drawings of different kinds of grapes. That suddenly made ...Read Full Post »

I saw this pretty little thing at the Dollar General, or maybe it was the Dollar Store. At any rate, pretty much everything in there was a dollar, but that doesn't mean it's a good deal. That's the number one rule in places like that. Unfortunately, this is one of those items to watch out for.
It looks like a nutcracker all right. It even appears to be shaped to accommodate different...Read Full Post »

Admit it. You have at least one can of pumpkin in your cupboards that has been there for years. You don't want to throw it away, but you are afraid to use it. Well, I saw the Pioneer Woman put pumpkin pie filling in a smoothie, and that got me inspired! I grabbed the four cans of Libby's Pumpkin that have been making me feel guilty for years.

My husband brought home this beautiful cherry-red blender one day. It reminded me of those hot rod cars with the flashy paint jobs. He bought it because he has become quite a health nut, and planned for us to have protein shakes for breakfast. Every day. For life.
I went through a little grieving process for a couple of weeks, to think that my days of scrambled egg sandwiches, pancakes soaked with syrup and hashbrowns slathered in ketchup were over. But after a while, I rea...Read Full Post »

Product-testers are inherently creative people . . . and I have come across someone who proves this in a remarkable way. Ruth Marburger of Bremerton, Washington may just be the Northwest's outdoorsy, earthy answer to Martha Stewart. She took a grinder like this:
And made this . . .
Of course, it wasn't THAT ea...Read Full Post »

This is one of those products where it is oh-so-important to have instructions.
Really, if you unwrapped this as a gift, would you know what to do with it?
I put this through the Eggroll method of product testing . . .
It made a very ugly napkin holder.
Then I thought, it could be mounted on a wall . . .
And used to hold...Read Full Post »
